Tooth-Colored Fillings
In our practice, we use only bonded, tooth-colored fillings for restorations.
The FDA would never approve silver mercury fillings today. They can damage the teeth they are meant to protect, and detract from their appearance, turning them dark gray. As metal fillings expand and contract with temperature changes, their movement weakens and cracks teeth. It also creates a space between the tooth wall and filling, allowing bacteria to enter, causing decay.
The new bonded plastic materials are more effective and last longer. Bonded plastics can be used to restore teeth with larger, older fillings. They can often be used instead of crowns to conserve your healthy tooth structure. Teeth that are restored with bonded plastics are stronger and healthier than those with old, worn, silver-mercury fillings.
Best of all, these sophisticated restorations look and feel like natural healthy teeth!
